Leaflint: llms.txt generator & checker

llms.txt on Shopify

You probably already have one. Shopify's developer docs say: "By default, Shopify manages /llms.txt by mirroring the content of /agents.md… For most stores, the managed file is all you need." (shopify.dev, llms.txt.liquid) Before you install an app or paste in a file, open https://yourstore.com/llms.txt and look at it.

How Shopify decides what /llms.txt shows

Lookup order, quoted from Shopify's docs:

  1. llms.txt.liquid (if present)
  2. agents.md.liquid (if present)
  3. The Shopify-generated default

/llms-full.txt follows the same pattern with llms-full.txt.liquid. Shopify announced these templates on May 28, 2026 (changelog).

Facts worth knowing (all from the same docs):

Which option should you pick?

You want… Do this
The default Nothing. Check it's there
The same custom text at /agents.md, /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt Add templates/agents.md.liquid
/llms.txt to differ from /agents.md Add templates/llms.txt.liquid. Shopify calls this an "advanced requirement" where you "take responsibility for keeping its content current"

Adding llms.txt.liquid (desktop)

From Shopify's docs: Online Store > Themes > "..." > Edit code > right-click Templates > New File > name it llms.txt.liquid > Enter. Shopify's own example uses the agents object:

# {{ agents.store_name }}

> Agent-discovery summary. The canonical, full description is at {{ agents.store_url }}/agents.md.

Tip (ours): if you hand-write links, use full https URLs and keep them updated, because the template won't update itself.

What about llms.txt apps?

The Shopify App Store has many apps that mention llms.txt (SEO counted 352 search results on Oct 15 2026; we haven't reviewed them). Given the managed default, check what an app adds beyond Shopify's built-in file before you install one. We don't name or rate apps here.

Check your store's file

Copy the text from yourstore.com/llms.txt into the llms.txt checker. Want a hand-written version for llms.txt.liquid? Draft it in the generator, then paste it into the template.
